GHS Class of 1966
OCTOBER NEWSLETTER
Well, I finally got it together, with the assistance of Shelley McDade, and we now have our own OFFICIAL Grapevine High School Class of 1966 website. Shelley McDade went to work for the Grapevine Colleyville Independent School District almost 15 years ago (she was a mere child at the time) and I was already up in years. She has done almost all the work for our website and I truly appreciate her assistance and expertise. Hopefully she will have me trained soon and I can take over most of the upkeep on our site.
I will be working on posting photos of our 10 year reunion (1976) at the Grapevine Civic Center and in the evening at the Holiday Inn near Hwy 10 & Loop 820, our 15 year reunion at the Quail Hollow Ranch (Darrell & Donna Young Faglie’s) in Southlake (1981), our 20 year reunion at the Home of Rick and Diane Stacy (1986), our 25 year reunion at the the Marriott Solona in Southlake(1991), our 30 year reunion – Golf at Timarron, dinner at LaCasa Mexican Cafe and then at Larry & Linda Oliver’s Home (1996) and our 35 year reunion at the Grapevine Concourse Facility (2001) that will go with the photos already posted from our Oct 2002 Get-together at the Faglie home in Southlake (even though it is in the Grapevine-Colleyville School District. Please try and be patient as I go through these photographs and attempt to get as many good ones on a CD to then post online.
I also want to thank those of you who have sent me so many nice emails about the website. I also appreciate the offer of at least ten who have offered to help cover the costs associated with this website. I want to get everything in place and operating properly so all can see how it is going to work. After that I may let people contribute to the cost which will likely reach about $350 for year one and about $250 for subsequent years (if there is little to no price increase).
I also want to work on establishing email addresses, phone numbers, mailing address, etc. for those classmates who are not opposed to listing that information on the website in case some of your classmates and or friends want to contact you. However, I will most likely seek some sort of signed permission from you if you wish that information published – as some may not want that out there on an open website. We are investigating a way to send emails without publishing the email addresses similar to how classmates.com allows you to email individuals without disclosure of the actual email address.
Many of you my know that Gary Cumbie recently retired from TXU and after a short time off has gone to work for Texas Wesleyan University as some sort of Vice President for money collecting. Gary has served the Fort Worth area extremely well over the past years, serving on various boards, Downtown Rotary Club, and many other civic and church activities. Gary continues to be a fine guy (don’t tell him I said that).
Gary Cumbie also hosted a couple of “wild poker parties” for the likes of classmates like John Yancey, Joe Lipscomb, Gus Linthicum, Darrell Faglie, David Florence, Bob Havran, and Bob Stevenson of late. However Gary has also bought a new home and has yet to share his new address with us – not sure if that was a reflection on our gaming attributes or not.
I received an email from Mary Wood Burkett this past week. Mary is, as she stated, beginning a new era in her life. Starting on November 1, 2003 she will be a “retired” person and leaving Vought Aircraft. She has just had knee replacement surgery so she can now ride her horses free of pain. She is intending to pursue her favorite hobby, trail riding! She will be giving up her email address after October – she needs to buy a computer for her home and keep in touch! Please wish Mary well in her retirement.
Thank each of you for all your prayers for Roger Hardin and his family. Please continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers as Roger continues to improve.
For those of you who don’t know, and for those of you who do, Darrell Faglie and I formed a business partnership in 2000 and purchased some property just south of Forestburg, Texas on July 1, 2000. We love the property….lots of trees, including live oaks, creeks, turkeys, deer, bobcats, hogs, and even a panther. We have worked getting some fencing in place. We have recently drilled a water well and hope to have a couple of small buildings finished before the freeze for the well, storage and such. We hope to install a septic system so when we take our trailers up to the property we have water, electricity and sewer….all the comforts of home. We go up there often (about 20 minutes north and a little east of Decatur), but not nearly often enough. It is beautiful and we hope to invite everyone up for a cookout and class get-together sometime in the near future. We hope to build homes on the site some day within the next 2, 3, 5 or 7 years (depends on whether you ask me, Darrell, Donna or Linda).
Please look over the MISSING CLASSMATES and let me know of any leads you know of on how we might contact them. Also – don’t forget to keep me informed of any changes in addresses, email address, and phone numbers so it won’t be so hard to find you the next time we decide to have some sort of full-blown or mini reunion.
Please send me information that I can post here in our next Newsletter. I hope to have one every other month (or if news flows in, maybe every month when needed). We will try to keep a year worth of Newsletters online (once we have a year completed).
If you have any suggestions or complaints – send me the suggestions and mail the complaints to someone else.
God Bless the GHS Class of 1966!
